This is by far the most important element of a successful aquascape. Creativity is the driving force behind all great artists. Visualising your work in your mind then recreating this inside an aquarium is a personal journey however the results are available for anyone to see.
We want to see something original from our aquascapers, something that only they have created themselves which showcases their imagination and ability to recreate their own ideas.
Our Judges will have a total of 30 points to award each entry for this section.
A successful aquascaper needs to have a complete understanding of everything they use. Everything from the equipment used to run their aquarium down to the intricate placing of rock and wood. Knowing the behaviour of each plant species can make all the difference when growing out an aquascape.
Our judges will be looking for an understanding of the lights, CO2 and filtration being used to run the aquarium. They will also be paying extra attention to the way the aquascaper has worked with the texture of the substrate, rocks, wood and plants to create the overall visual experience.

The most appealing aquascapes always have balance. It is important to never over use one element within your aquarium. Consideration should be taken when choosing materials in order to avoid an overbearing hardscape. It is equally important when selecting your aquarium plants. Livestock also plays a huge part in creating balance.
Our judges will be looking out for all these things in search for the perfectly balanced aquascape.
Maintaining a successful aquascape can be as challenging as creating one. We often overlook just how much work goes into the health and wellbeing of a planted aquarium. Each plant has different needs. Wether that is lighting, fertiliser, flow, co2, positioning and heat. A good aquascaper applies general care to all their plants together but a great aquascaper pays attention to every aspect of their aquarium.
Our judges will be looking for very healthy plants displaying vibrant, colourful leaves. They will also be searching for signs of algae or debris present.

As we observe an aquascape, we must feel a connection to nature. What has been recreated inside an aquarium should resemble a scene from nature. Does your aquascape have this appeal? Have you recreated a scene from nature? Our judges are looking for the perfect nature scene.
